Wanted 2 moving ahead?

Wanted 2 moving ahead?

The film ‘Wanted’ was released in 2008, starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman and is based on the comic book series of the same name by writer Mark Millar and artist J.G. Jones. The comics were published by Top Cow and are still available in a single volume collector edition as both a soft cover and hard cover.

The film was a moderate success within the US market but achieved solid numbers on the international market and through DVD sales. The film grossed approximately $340 million world wide in its theatrical run and received mixed but generally positive reviews from critics.

Previously rumours have circulated about a potential sequel, in an interview during 2009 Angelina Jolie was asked about her participation in a potential sequel and her response was as follows;

Being dead makes it difficult, they were trying to bring me back, but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually… It would just be doing the exact same thing in another movie, so it’s not that interesting to me.

It does look like progress is happening on a sequel, with writer Derek Haas, who was attached to the first film tweeting the following earlier this week;

Michael and I were just hired by Uni to write Wanted 2.

The ‘Michael’ that Derek is referring to presumably would be his writing partner on the first film ‘Michael Brandt’.

While many scripts are developed that never receive the green light for production, this is the most solid news of development on a ‘Wanted’ sequel that we’ve received so far.

More to come as it’s announced!

Leith spent most of his formative years growing up on the coastal fringes of Western Australia without a cinema in sight. There he grew up on the wonders of home rentals before relocating to Perth and gaining access to a proper cinematic experience just in time for the Star Wars Special Edition re-releases. From there Leith's love of movies expanded to volunteering on a Star Wars fan film, reviewing films, writing about film news, and attending film and pop-culture related conventions on the other side of the world. Leith's favourite films are too many to mention but all start with the Star Wars saga, Back to the Future, the Dark Knight trilogy, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and all things Kevin Smith. With an insatiable appetite for all things pop-culture related Leith also has an unhealthy addiction to the world of comics and can often be found buried under a pile of unread back issues madly trying to catch up on a number of titles coming out from mostly DC and Darkhorse.
