Wartime Code Breakers

Wartime Code Breakers

THE IMITATION GAME is a new thriller about British mathematician Alan Turing. Historically, he is  best known for cracking the German Enigma code and helping the Allies win the War. Turing designed the theoretical framework for the first modern computers. He was a genius whose work had world-wide impact, yet in the 1950s he was not a celebrated figure, but rather a broken man who was persecuted for his homosexuality in an era when it was against the law.

THE IMITATION GAME stars Benedict Cumberbatch (television’s SHERLOCK) in a performance drawing rave notices from critics. Movies like U-571 (2000) and ENIGMA (2001) have told parts of this story while somehow leaving out the Turing’s contribution. THE IMITATION GAME puts Turing back into the popular narrative of this exciting era of recent history.

LUNA OUTDOOR in Leederville screens THE IMITATION GAME (M) at 8:15pm from Friday Jan 2 to Wednesday Jan 7. See Mr Cumberbatch unfold this tale with a strong British cast including Keira Knightly, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong and Charles Dance.
