After delays and Director shuffles, the Wolverine sequel (imaginatively titled The Wolverine) has finally got the green light for shooting… in Sydney!
The announcement comes after over a year of delays and several Director swaps. James Mangold, Director of Walk the Line and 3:10 to Yuma will be at the helm of this sequel which will commence filming in August this year.
Despite rumours surrounding Japan and Canada as potential locations, New South Wales won out. The Eastern state will be masquerading as Japan where the film is set.
It is estimated the shoot will generate over $80million in product expenditure in NSW, create more than 720 jobs and give 1200 Aussie extras the chance to strut their stuff.
Though most of the post-production work will be done in the US, we do get a stab at some visual effects work (hopefully they’ll be a little better than the cringe-worthy effects of X-men Origins: Wolverine…)
The Wolverine is expected to hit screens in July 2013.
