Wreck It Ralph smashes opening box office in the U.S.

There’s Pac-Man, Paperboy, Sonic and there’s even a diet coke volcano, but most of all, there’s Ralph. Wreck It Ralph is the newest animated feature from Disney. The film has proven to be one of the most successful opening animated features from Disney topping the opening weekend box office in the United States. After viewing the trailer, I’m eager to be first in line and sit front row when it gets released on Boxing Day here in Australia.

Official synopsis by Walt Disney Studios: Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan — win a medal — but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?

The film grossed just over $49 million on opening weekend which is the biggest weekend for an animated film. With an average of $13 070 per location screening the film, that’s a lot of popcorn! Do you think the film can rake in over the $165 million it cost to make the film? I think so!

Stacey's favourite films include: Titanic (1997), Cast Away (2000), Moulin Rouge (2001), The Notebook (2004), Kill Bill vol.1 and 2 (2003, 2004), Ruby Sparks (2012) and the list goes on.
