TRON is a 3D high—tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech—savvy 27—year—old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life—and—death journey across a visually—stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.
TRON LEGACY is by far the most visually stunning film I have ever seen, now I know that’s a big call but even still I can’t think of any film that even gets close in comparison. Seeing Jeff Bridges back in the role of Kevin Flynn 28 years after the release of the original ‘Tron’ really blows my mind. Back in 1982 ‘Tron’ was, what the best word to use, “Revolutionary” nothing even close compared visual wise even though if you watch it these days it may look a bit ‘cheesy’ but even still I rewatched it in anticipation for Legacy and it is still an amazing film.
Now this film just doesn’t stand alone on visuals to make it great, the soundtrack blew my mind the fact that Disney tapped Daft Punk to write an original score to this film was another one of the best decisions ever, this sort of film was made for Daft Punks music and while writing this review I have it absolutely pumping out of my stereo. The media screening I attended was also in the new Titan XC Cinema at Readings Belmont it was the first ever screening of a film in there newly renovated complex and words really can’t describe how amazing this sound system is at some points throughout the film the cinema was literately shaking.
Performance wise I can’t really fault much, Jeff Bridges I really can’t say enough about how brilliant he is, throughout there’s moments in the film that are borderline tearjerkers and they were mainly caused by him he is quite simply explained as flawless. Garrett Hedlund who you may have seen in ‘Friday Night Lights’ or ‘Four Brothers’ plays the son of Kevin Flynn, Sam. Garrett was a good casting choice but I do feel in a couple of scenes he could have delivered better. Getting onto supporting cast which personally other then Bridges was the stand outs to start off with Olivia Wilde (TV’s House) her portrayal of Quorra, Kevin Flynn’s confidant and really only friend in the digital world was brilliant she had a quite innocent and somewhat childlike personality which just suited Wilde completely. Martin Sheen (The Queen) was an interesting one as the nightclub owner Castor funnily enough I knew he was in the film but when Castor came onscreen it took me a bit to figure out it was him his performance was just over the top but sensational at the same time.
TRON LEGACY is the film to see this year it surpassed my wildest expectations and blew my mind. I need to see this film again and will be on the 16th December Opening Day. Whos with me?
